100,000 pupils each year have their education disrupted by arson attacks.

The APB kid’s pages (KIDS ZONE) are intended to provide an educational resource for use in the classroom and at home. Children will receive practical advice on fire safety, planning escape routes and calling the fire brigade. The teachers’ notes accompany the pages, offering activities which are generally for class-based lessons.

This resource include comprehensive lesson plans and may be used by those teaching keystage 3. The material fits into the National Curriculum requirements for citizenship. It is our hope that on reading these pages, teachers, parents and carers will gain an understanding of the problem of arson and use the resources provided to pass this understanding on to children so that they are less likely to become victims/ offenders of arson in the future.

ARSON
Children should be aware of the dangers of fire and the consequences of arson, they should taught the legal implications and social implications of fires.

ESCAPE
Making an escape plan is an important part of preparing for a fire, there are simple rules that can be followed that will increase everyone’s safety. In the event of a fire children must be well-practiced and not panic in order to get out safely.

REDUCING RISKS
Children should be aware that they can have a positive impact on their own safety, by being aware of the dangers around them, they can be in control of these risks.

SCHOOLS
Schools are targets for arson attacks, children should understand where and how they are at risk at school.

HOAX CALLS
Children should be aware of the legislation in respect of hoax call to emergency services and wider implications of hoax calls on society.
