Colouring Book

The colouring book pages of this website were included as an activity that children can enjoy. However, behind each of the pictures is a serious message that children must understand.

Fire fighter/ Fire Engine
Children must understand that starting a fire is dangerous

To put out a house fire, the average call-out will include 2 fire engines, 10 fire fighters and 200 gallons of water.

Do not play with fire, matches, lighters or fireworks
Children aged 2-7 are often fascinated with fire and this leads them to play with it. They do not understand its destructive potential.

25 % of daytime school arson attacks are carried out by children under the age of 7.

1017 people were injured by fireworks in 2002. 637 were under 21 years old.

Stay low and crawl to safety
The most common cause of death in a fire is being overcome by gas or smoke. The air is easier to breathe the lower you are. Children must know to crawl to safety.

In 47% of fire deaths in 2002 the victim was overcome by gas or smoke. Burns account for just 23% of fire deaths

Hoax calls cost lives by diverting resources from real fires. Children should be aware that they should call only 999 in a emergency.

In 2002 there were 477,100 false alarms. 67,100 were malicious.
